What Type Are You?

My dear pal Jaquandor did a link dump of various things of interest he picked up during his recent hiatus (which thank GOD is finally OVER!)

One of the things he shared with Typealyzer - a gizmo that analyzes a blog to spit out a Myers-Briggs personality type based on content of postings.

Accoding to Mind-Muffins, here's how I rate:

ISTP - The Mechanics
The independent and problem-solving type. They are especially attuned to the demands of the moment are masters of responding to challenges that arise spontaneously. They generally prefer to think things out for themselves and often avoid inter-personal conflicts.

The Mechanics enjoy working together with other independent and highly skilled people and often like seek fun and action both in their work and personal life. They enjoy adventure and risk such as in driving race cars or working as policemen and firefighters.

But when I put in my Life-by-Design blog it comes up with:

ISFP - The Artists
The gentle and compassionate type. They are especially attuned their inner values and what other people need. They are not friends of many words and tend to take the worries of the world on their shoulders. They tend to follow the path of least resistance and have to look out not to be taken advantage of.

They often prefer working quietly, behind the scene as a part of a team. They tend to value their friends and family above what they do for a living.

Then I put in my Apprentice Human blog and I get:

ESFP - The Performers
The entertaining and friendly type. They are especially attuned to pleasure and beauty and like to fill their surroundings with soft fabrics, bright colors and sweet smells. They live in the present moment and don´t like to plan ahead - they are always in risk of exhausting themselves.

The enjoy work that makes them able to help other people in a concrete and visible way. They tend to avoid conflicts and rarely initiate confrontation - qualities that can make it hard for them in management positions.

Last of all I put in my private blog that is restricted for my eyes only and came up with :

INTP - The Thinkers
The logical and analytical type. They are especialy attuned to difficult creative and intellectual challenges and always look for something more complex to dig into. They are great at finding subtle connections between things and imagine far-reaching implications.

They enjoy working with complex things using a lot of concepts and imaginative models of reality. Since they are not very good at seeing and understanding the needs of other people, they might come across as arrogant, impatient and insensitive to people that need some time to understand what they are talking about.

Uh, ok. So what do I think of this little gizmo? Not sure. But interesting to consider.

Hi Rajesh,

Sure - according to Debauching the Beau you get rated as ISTP - The Mechanics. When I put in Gimmekj Hpe Jo'anna I come up with ESTP - The Doers.

You can check any blog you want just by going to THIS LINK: typealyzer and putting in the URL of the blog. It is very fast, less than a minute to spit out the response.

I don't know that the thing has much validity, but it is interesting.

I have taken the full MMPI a number of times as well as other similar style tests and it's common for me to score differently depending on when I take it.

If you are interested in personality tests, try THIS link for Jung Typology test. It will take longer to do than just putting in a URL, but that way you will be measuring your own personality on a broader scale than what you happen to include in your blog.

I've used this as an assignment in one of the college classes I used to teach, so I've taken it a bunch to show the students how it works and talk about how labels can influence our perceptions and behavior. Last time I took it I came out as ENFJ

Or another one I used a lot was a learning style inventory which you can find HERE. You can ignore the questions for personal information at the top and go straight to the inventory.

This tells me I have a visual/verbal learning style, which is definitely on target.
